This is an old video, but I still meet people who have never heard of the Wilhelm, so here’s a little background.
The Wilhelm is an old sound clip of someone screaming, originally recorded in 1951 for the film Distant Drums. It was used in other flicks in the 50s, then largely forgotten. After its resurrection in the original Star Wars movies by sound editor Ben Burtt, it began to appear as a joke in many other films, especially those by Lucas and Disney. Once you train your voice to pick it out, you will hear it nearly all the time. It’s a fun little easter egg in movies, and neat that almost 60 years later, the same over-the-top scream is still being heard.
