Students and adults at Eastlake North High School were caught on tape last Thursday at a football game cheering an anti-gay chant at rival Willoughby South. Both schools are located in suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. The incident is creating quite a backlash in light of recent issues of school bullying and gay suicides.
On the tape, an estimated 300 people are heard chanting “Powder Blue Faggots” — an apparent reference to Willoughby’s team colors. Spectators were shocked that the chant was repeated three times before officials supposedly intervened.

Jennifer Chauby, the principal at Eastlake, seemed to dismiss the overall seriousness of the incident, telling On Top Magazine:
“We did put a stop to it as soon as we heard them chanting it, and it’s totally unacceptable and they know we don’t condone that type of behavior.”
However, Chauby claims that there were too many students involved to discipline, but that she would “talk” to the school.
