Donors Run & GOP Attacks: Is Newt’s Goose Cooked? (POLL)

Newt ‘so-patriotic-I-cheated’ Gingrich may have come to the end of his presidential quest before the 2012 political season has even officially begun. With recent gaffs, a train wreck appearance on Meet the Press, where he labeled fellow TeaPublican Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and his proposed budget as “radical” and “right-wing social engineering,” and increased scrutiny over his disgraced term as Speaker of the House and multiple marital indiscretions, Newt now faces a number of high-profile political donors abandoning ship.

According to the report on HuffPo:

“The last 48 hours have called into question if Newt can even make it to July 4, because his fundraising is going to dry up,” said one veteran Republican strategist. “No serious finance bundler is now going to step forward in such an organized campaign and take a leadership role.”

One Republican operative said that Gingrich had 18 co-chairs for a campaign fundraiser in the South until his Meet the Press appearance. Within 24-hours of the show “13 of them dropped.”

Compounding Newt’s shaky public image because of questions on his multiple marriages was a report this week on Politico that Gingrich owed the famed Tiffany’s jeweler “between $250,000 and $500,000 for jewelry.”

To add insult to injury in an already tragic week for the Newtster, the candidate was caught on tape being confronted by two different citizens, one a Republican voter, who told him “You’re an embarrassment to our party. Why don’t you get out before you make a bigger fool of yourself?” The other confrontation occurred on the same day when a gay rights activist “glitter bombed” both Newt and his current wife at a book signing.

So, what do you think: can we count Newt out of the 2012 race now or should we expect a long and painful political death?
