There is nothing I enjoy more than watching Republican’s squirm in their seats as they defend policies that are either killing the environment or killing humans.
Last night, former head of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge, appeared on the Colbert Report to talk about natural gas. Ridge now works for the industry, but swears he’s not a lobbyist.
All Smiles at first...
“Since it’s the first time on your show, I hate to correct you on your first question, but I’m not a lobbyist.”
Uh-huh. You might wanna go easy correcting Stephen in his own house.
When they started talking about fracking, Ridge tried to make it sound so wonderful and amazing, but when Stephen asked about the chemicals used, which have wreaked havoc on peoples’ health and polluted countless water supplies, the interview got interesting and Ridge got really, really uncomfortable.
What, no smile?
“One of the things I like about this is that during the Bush administration, Vice President Cheney’s energy taskforce made sure that the gas companies did not have to reveal what the chemicals were that were being pumped into the ground. Now, it’s been reported that some are things like kerosene, benzene, urea, toluene – how many of those can I feed my toddler?”
Ouch.
