This story has been getting a lot of coverage on some of the religious and spiritual blogs, due to its combative and war-mongering language, and the insistence of the organizers to rename Washington DC the “district of Christ.”
The DC40 is an event intended to “lay siege” on Washington D.C. It’s scheduled for six weeks beginning October 2nd and continuing through November 11th, and is organized by Cindy Jacobs and John Benefiel, both power players in the New Apostolic Reformation, the militaristic evangelical movement of which David Barton and others are members of. Benefiel, if you’ll remember, is also part of The Response, the upcoming prayer rally hosted by Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX).
Usually when I write about people or events like this, I tend to take a more mocking tone, but as things get worse in this country, and the masses become more vulnerable to the unrelenting brow-beating of fundamentalist extremists, I think it’s somewhat foolish to continue to mock or underestimate these people, especially since they are gaining more and more political power, thanks to the militantly religious politicians they regularly support, like Michele Bachmann and others.
The DC40 Rally’s tagline is “51 Days of reformation intercession; fifty states plus one very important district,” and is intended to be a six week intercessory prayer battle over all 50 states:
A nation will arise as one to release reformation intercession for 51 days.
Beginning on October 3 with Hawaii, the last state to enter the Union, each state will stand shoulder-to-shoulder and pray as the state of Hawaii is point man for the day. The other 49, with spiritual shields locked together, will pray with Hawaii for our nation’s capital to be eternally reformed. On that day we will also pray for the state of Hawaii to step into the fullness of her destiny, and for the full release of the redemptive gifts she carries to be woven into the fabric of our nation in an even greater measure than before.
On October 4, it will be Alaska’s turn to take the point position of leading intercession in releasing the power of eternal light over our nation’s capital, with the strength of the other 49 standing as one alongside her.
And so we will move – each state taking its turn front-and-center, in reverse order of its entry to the Union, affecting eternal change in our nation’s capital, so that our elected officials can govern from a new position of non-compromising light and understanding, as we change the spiritual atmosphere over Washington DC forever.
Now, as I said, this story has received most of its attention from spiritual blogs, namely Pagans, who have noticed the particular emphasis on the three days surrounding Samhain, or Halloween, and the Day of the Dead, which have been labeled as “three days, capitals to capital.”
The Pagan blogger Hecate points out the complete disassociation from the principles America was founded on, and which have now been drowned in the paranoid conspiracies of Benefiel about the name of the District of Columbia and the Statue of Liberty:
In Benefiel’s cosmology, any female form of deity is evil. He mushes them all up into one entity that he calls “Queen of Heaven”, and so Columbia = Queen of Heaven = the Statue of Liberty = Baal (even though Baal comes from a Semetic word that means “lord” or “master” and Baal is generally thought of as male. In Benefiel’s world, demons = female).
This is part of the greater issue of the extremist Christians’ war on women, which insists that anything to do with women must be vilified and demonized in order maintain patriarchal control, because that is the will of God, and they no longer care about the rule of law, unless sanctified by their twisted view of the Bible. Jason Pitzl-Waters, who writes The Wild Hunt blog at Patheos notes:
That animus towards compromise isn’t an aberration. Benefiel’s HAPN (Heartland Apostolic Prayer Network) released a “Declaration of Light” that made it very clear that they have “no power to purpose or accept any compromise of the promises of God, and we declare illegal in the earth any action or any people, Nation or nations that undertake what is contradictory to the Word of God.” In short, if it isn’t God-sanctified, it doesn’t apply to them.
I know it’s easy to pass these “warriors of God” off as crackpots, but I don’t think we can afford that luxury any longer. They have a definitive agenda for this country, and it has nothing to do with the original intentions laid out by the Founding Fathers, the history of which they have twisted and distorted beyond recognition.
They have made it clear that they have no interest in abiding by the law of the land, that the principles the Founding Fathers truly meant for this country are wrong, and that the rule of their religion is more important than the rule of law and the good of the country, which, in my mind, turns them into something akin to traitors. Their goal is to turn this country into a bona fide Christian theocracy and to overturn democracy in every form at every level.
WATCH their video and decide for yourself. If it’s not a declaration of war against democracy, I don’t know what is…
