Jon Stewart Slams CNN’s ‘Branded’ News Segments (VIDEO)

It’s been so long since I’ve actually watched CNN that I’d forgotten how terrible they’ve become. Cable news in itself has a propensity to be fairly bad, but CNN has perfected the art of awful. They really do suck, and Jon Stewart has a new bee in his bonnet to remind us all just how much they suck.

On last night’s show, he took on CNN’s new habit of branding segments with lame, irritating and completely useless titles like Political Pop, or No Talking points, or XCountry, or R&R “Not rest and relaxation, but a little Reynolds and Randi time!” or whatever else their mindless producers can drum up. I suppose they’re meant to be catchy and cutesy, but ultimately come off as disingenuous and stupid.

Of course, the major problem with this is when they use these “cutesy” segments to tackle serious subject matter, like the little girl who escaped her would-be kidnapper and was branded “today’s rock star.” This same honor was bestowed on the memory of civil rights hero Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which is just…

“That’s fucked up. Do you have any idea what a demotion ‘rock star’ is for Dr. King? ‘Congratulations, Dr, King. You’ve now earned your seat next to…Billy Idol.’”
