The Daily Show with Jon Stewart waded into foreign territory on Tuesday night, taking on the pelting Hillary Clinton’s motorcade received during her visit to Egypt. They were protesting her visit, with chants of “Monica! Monica!” because of recent allegations made by several Tea Party members of Congress against Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Huma Abedin, who is a Muslim woman, and who Michele Bachmann and others have accused of collusion with the Muslim Brotherhood. It’s a funny bit, but the subject matter is a little more serious as we’ll explain (get your laughs in now, because it’s really not so funny).
WATCH (story continues below):
Rachel Maddow went into more depth on the protests, and the perception in Egypt that the U.S. somehow manipulated the recent elections there. Where on earth did they get such an idea?
“Turns out they get this stuff from Glenn Beckistan. They get it from the crazy conspiracy theories cooked up on the American right. […] The New York Times blog, The Lede, had a really good journalistic detective story on this today. They traced back various peoples’ interviews with protesters, and they followed links that people gave for information and the citation that people were using for their arguments, and the Times was able to sauce out where this subset of Egyptians, these protester who just attacked Hillary Clinton with tomatoes, where they got this cockamamie idea that the U.S. is in cahoots with the new Islamist regime in Egypt.”
I’ll give you five guesses where this crap came from, first four don’t count. Hint: it’s Li’l Miss Crazy Pants herself.
WATCH (story continues below):
While Maddow doesn’t go into the particulars of Bachmann’s insane and incredibly dangerous accusations, Anderson Cooper did. In a classic smackdown, Cooper dismantled Bachmann’s witch hunt against Abedin piece by piece on AC360:
“Now you would think that for sitting members of Congress to make a charge like that, they would have some actual evidence, right? You would think that. But the truth is they don’t have any direct evidence. What they have are allegations of past connections of relatives of hers that are tenuous at best.”
Yeah, you would think. But we are talking about the paranoid schizophrenics who have managed to get themselves elected through tapping into the xenophobic fears of their less-than-educated-or-informed base. Cooper goes on to debunk Bachmann & Co in a manner that gives me hope for some in our media.
WATCH (story continues below):
In a final kick to the teeth, Senator John McCain (R-AZ), proving that he still has some moral scruples remaining in that shell he used to call a maverick, took to the Senate floor to defend Abedin in no uncertain terms:
“When anyone, not least a member of Congress, launches vicious and degrading attacks against fellow Americans on the basis of nothing more than fear of who they are, in ignorance of what they stand for, it defames the spirit of our nation, and we all grow poor because of it. Our reputations, our character, are the only things we leave behind when we depart this earth. And unjust acts that malign the good name of a decent and honorable person, is not only wrong, it is contrary to everything we hold dear.”
WATCH (story continues below):
And that’s from a member of Bachmann’s own decrepit party.
With the havoc Bachmann and her fellow henchmen are now wreaking, both here and abroad, I think it’s high-time we start calling for her resignation and/or dismissal from Congress. She is an embarrassment at best, a monumental danger at worst.
Some would say that she doesn’t deserve the publicity or the validation of continued coverage, but I would beg to differ. If you want to talk about infiltration of our government, Bachmann is the poster child. She is a fundamentalist zealot – one of many – who have wormed their way into the halls of legislative power. Their weapons are a distorted view of history, which has been lapped up like water by their mindless and stupid acolytes, and a frightening, theocratic vision of what the future of this country should be.
She is a national threat to the country and she should be thumped out of office immediately.

this nut case is so out of touch.she cannot hold a candle to hilary clinton.
michelle bachman is mentally unstable & dangerous
The Republicans are just thowing this insane mud because they want to keep Anthony Weiner from become mayor of NY City!! The Republicans seem to be pulling out all the stops with their virulent hate!
Bachman had already cemented her position as More BatshitCrazy than Sarah Palin. That is an extreme position to be in. But here she almost indicates how corrupt the American government is.
This didn’t need to be said. Most of us are reasonable people. Then there are politicians. Most are doing an adequate job, but then there is Bachman, and Boehner, Cantor and Santorum. And Romney. What did we do to deserve them?
Bachman does not belong in leadership position. She is hateful and ignorant.
I’m waiting for the man with many names in Calif. that produced Innocence of Muslims to squeal his connections. ‘
