Can you remember where you and your lover shared your first kiss? That is one concern that the President and First Lady no longer have to worry about. Barack and Michelle Obama now have a plaque that marks the spot of their first kiss.
The managers of a shopping center in Chicago’s Hyde Park installed the plaque outside of the Baskin Robbins (now a Subway) where the Obamas had their first date. What’s interesting is that Barack Obama’s first job at the age of fifteen was at a Baskin Robbins. The fact that he chose the ice cream shop for his first date with his future wife could suggest that he had strong feelings for her before they developed a relationship. The following quote from President Obama describing the moment is inscribed on the plaque:
“On our first date, I treated her to the finest ice cream, Baskin-Robbins had to offer, our dinner table doubling as the curb, I kissed her, and it tasted like chocolate.”
My affection for the First Family goes beyond my respect for their accomplishments. I think any cordial relationship that has lasted as long as the marriage between the President and First Lady is worth celebrating. This is truly a sign of your success. You know you’ve made it if someone puts up a plaque commemorating your first kiss with your spouse.
