1933 - Prohibition ended with the ratification of the 21st amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
1952 – A “killer fog” settled over London and lasted for four days. The man-made smog was so thick that buses could not run without people walking ahead of them, guiding them with lanterns. Research indicates that as many as 12,000 died prematurely, and 100,000 were made ill, due to the smog.
