Jon Stewart took a closer look at the media coverage of the Presidential Inauguration on Tuesday night’s The Daily Show, and the differences between the cable networks was predictable, but thanks to his crack team of splicers and dicers, pretty damn funny.
On the one hand, you had the somewhat fawning panel of pundits at MSNBC, on the other you have the Debbie Downers of Fox News, and somewhere in the middle of all of that, you had a hot mess, also known as CNN.
In part one, he poked a little fun at but mostly cheered on President Obama’s speech – until Obama declared, “we will respond to the threat of climate change…some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires and crippling drought and more powerful storms.”
“Holy shit! We don’t need a president, we need the Last Airbender!

In part two, he got down to business – skewering the media’s predictable reaction to the spectacle, with the optimists being MSNBC, the pessimists Fox News and the train wreck going to CNN after spending an inordinate amount of news time on the First Lady’s coat:
“So you’ve just fuckin’ given up then, is that what you’re telling us?”
But the winner for media douchebag of the night could only go to one person. We all know him – and mostly despise him – because when it comes to tolerance and a basic understanding of facts, well…
“For the losing side of history, I’m Pat Buchanan.”
He finished up by deep-sixing the right-wing hysterics – again – and wiped the floor with their delusional paranoia:
“But once again, what is more remarkable to me is how, even when articulating his most full-throated, liberal ideals, how different actual Barack Obama is from the bizarre boogeyman and empty-chair Obama who lives only in the minds of his opponent.”
Cue the apocalyptic clip reel…
