OK, ladies, brace yourselves and pay attention, because Kevin Swanson of the right-wing, thoroughly batshit crazy Generations Radio has a message for you, so listen up:
You are walking, talking, one-woman cemeteries.
In this day and age, it’s really hard to know just how low these religious a-holes will go in vilifying women, because just when you think they’ve vocalized the worst possible thought, some dipshit appears out of nowhere and says something even more deplorable. So, consider the bar now lowered from the gutter to the putrid depths of the nation’s now overcrowded sewers. Here’s what Swanson, harbinger of womanly death, would like 99% of the country’s women to be aware of:
I’m beginning to get some evidence from certain doctors and certain scientists that have done research on women’s wombs after they’ve gone through the surgery, and they’ve compared the wombs of women who were on the birth control pill to those who were not on the birth control pill. And they have found that with women who are on the birth control pill, there are these little tiny fetuses, these little babies, that are embedded into the womb. They’re just like dead babies. They’re on the inside of the womb. And these wombs of women who have been on the birth control pill effectively have become graveyards for lots and lots of little babies.
Wow. After that, I guess I don’t feel so bad in calling Rick Santorum “The Dead Baby Candidate.” That post caused me a lot of grief because I thought I’d crossed an unpalatable line, but leave it to the right-wingers of Santorum’s ilk to one-up me.
Of course, when Swanson says “certain doctors” and “certain scientists,” he means nothing more than right-wing quackery that has no basis in actual science or research or rational thought. And it’s glaringly, embarrassingly obvious that Swanson, much like his right-wing whack-jobs contemporaries, lacks a basic, working knowledge of female biology and just how the female body works, much less how it works on birth control. So let’s take a quick, little tutorial for right-wing dummies, shall we? From our friends at Planned Parenthood:
It’s pretty common for people to be confused about how birth control pills work. Here’s what it boils down to: birth control pills are made of hormones. Hormones are chemicals made in our bodies. They control how different parts of our bodies work.
Some birth control pills contain two hormones — estrogen and progestin. These are called combination pills. Some are progestin-only pills. Most women on the pill take combination pills.
The hormones in the pill work by
- Keeping eggs from leaving the ovaries. Pregnancy cannot happen if there is no egg to join with sperm.
- Making cervical mucus thicker. This keeps sperm from getting to the eggs.
So, I think it’s safe to say that women’s wombs are NOT “embedded” with “tiny fetuses,” because there is no fetus if the egg doesn’t experience a how-do-you-do from the sperm, you scum-sucking idiot!
Are we clear?
As mud, to people like Swanson apparently.
Instead of giving these complete and utter morons tax-exempt status, can we do these jack-offs a favor and send them back to high school for a required course in basic biology?
Because, for the love of f@%king Pete, the stupid…it burns…

No right winger, worth his or her salt, will ever be deterred by mere facts! It’s part and parcel of the American ‘culture of ignorance’ that beliefs are every bit as good as facts, and no group celebrates their ignorance like fundamentalist Christians.
I’m posting this in case other women like me were confused because I learned there were FOUR ways the Pill works to prevent pregnancy, so I went and looked it up. Beth is essentially right that the Pill has 2 mechanisms that prevent pregnancy: 1) no egg to fertilize and 2) thick cervical mucus the spermatozoa reaching the egg.
The Pill’s first line of defense is to keep ova from maturing; no mature egg means no ovulation and no egg to get fertilized. But even if an egg were released, the Pill also inhibited tubal motility; the matured egg travels down the Fallopian tube to the uterus in much the same way that food travels through your intestines – no Tubal motility, no egg reaches the uterus to be fertilized. Thirdly, thickened cervical mucus keeps those determined little spermatozoa from getting to the egg, if there were an egg in the uterus -at this point a ridiculously remote chance. And lastly, the Pill changes the endometrial lining, making it an unfriendly environment for sperm as well as impeding implantation of a fertilized egg, if there were a mature egg which actually got to the uterus and a sperm managed to stay alive long enough and find its way to the egg which it won’t.
These are the 4 things the Pill does to inhibit fertility, but the 2 Beth talks about are the main 2. There is insufficient medical evidence that the other 2 processes – tubal immotility and lack of implantation – are ever happening because the first 2 are so effective.
The quacks who imagine tons of dead… well, fertilized eggs, because they wouldn’t be medically termed fetuses – are banking on the idea that the first 3 operations of the Pill fail repeatedly and only stopping implantation of a fertilized egg is what stops pregnancy every time. Which would make the idea of tons of little failed fertilized eggs piling up in our uteri ridiculous anyway, since they get would get flushed out during your menstrual period – just like unfertilized eggs do each month when you are not on the Pill and abstaining from sex or are using another form of birth control like a condom,or just don’t happen to get pregnant that month.
Sorry for all the chat, but that’s the explanation for those like me who had the 4 mechanisms of the Pill explained to us – 2 of them rarely if ever come into play.
BTW, have any of these quacks estimated a count of those poor lost sperm who never got their chance because some man masturbated them into the graveyard of a kleenex? (Sorry, but that was just begging to be said.)
“BTW, have any of these quacks estimated a count of those poor lost sperm who never got their chance because some man masturbated them into the graveyard of a kleenex?”
LOL!
No, Lisa, unfortunately, they haven’t, but some women lawmakers have tried presenting bills to make that happen — mostly with protest or symbolic bills that never go anywhere. I, personally, think they should get serious with such bills, because it takes two to tango, and if you’re going to regulate the bejeezus out of the vagina, then the penis should be fair game.
Sauce for the vagina, sauce for the penis, I always say.
There is a very simple way to resolve this question anyway. Women, do your shopping at Adam and Eve, not at Victoria’s Secret. Stop having sex with the men who think this way and they’ll change their minds soon enough. As a good friend of mine put it many years ago “I don’t need a penis to be a woman.” I love the double entendre of that statement – the obvious physical reference and the idea that we don’t need men – or sex with men – to live fulfilled lives.
The men spouting nonsense like Santorum and Swanson seem to have forgotten that fact. If not, they can go on to having fulfilling sex lives with their kleenex – it won’t have the nerve to think it has the right to make decisions about its own existence.
I’d like to offer a different perspective. When someone, anyone feels strongly about a subject they tend to try to defend it. Unfortunately, most will defend something even in the face of logic or truth that contradicts their belief or feeling. BUT, what exactly is “Truth”? Is it true that creation requires a creator? Is that a logical assumption? Is it possible for anything that has intelligent and ordered design to originate from absolute chaos and disorder? If we say yes, we abandon logic and reason. Therefore, the basic assumption must be made that in order for intelligent design to exist; there must be some form of intelligence to create it. If there is a God, He is obviously intelligent. He is able to create. What we choose to believe about how the human race came to exist is the “Key” to making sense of this entire debate regarding “Pro-Life” and “Pro-choice”. If God is just a cosmic intellect that created mankind and left no hint of His purpose for mankind to follow, then a “Pro-Life” person is purely operating on emotion. At the same time, if there is no God, then we must accept that there is no such thing as “right or wrong”. Those are purely subjective ideas based upon what any group of people at any given point and time decides they will establish as right or wrong. Interestingly though, the US Constitution and our form of government was set up as a Republic or as a society that would be governed by laws or rules. Those laws / rules came from the Bible and more specifically, the Ten Commandments. What if abortion is considered by the creator to be murder? What if gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, homosexual behavior is considered to be deviant and sexually immoral by the creator? What if the Creator has declared that all who do such things, without attempting to stop and obtain forgiveness through His Son Jesus will be punished eternally? WHAT IF THAT IS TRUTH? What are the consequences of ignoring this? I’m not trying to convince anyone to become a Christian in this posting. I’m only seeking to help anyone who might read this to consider with logic and reason one thing. If you evolved from a monkey and you do not have an eternal soul and you believe this line of reasoning to be garbage, no problem. BUT, if you cannot help but see that logic and reason demand that we explore how we came to be and what our purpose is, then please don’t let the emotion of either side of these issues blind you to the reasonable conclusion that YOU WERE CREATED BY INTELLIGENT DESIGN. THAT INTELLIGENT DESIGN (GOD) SENT HIS SON (JESUS) TO DIE FOR YOU, SO THAT YOU COULD FIND FORGIVENESS, MEANING AND PURPOSE BEYOND YOURSELF. That creator said, “Seek and you will find.” The answer to life is found in the author and sustainer of Life. His name is Jesus and no one that calls upon Him ever lives with regret. All who refuse to accept Jesus will forever live with regret. I truly hope that you find the peace I have found in Jesus. If you came from a monkey, abortion is a woman’s choice. If you were created by God, abortion is murder and He will hold us accountable. So, what will it be? Logic and morality and accountability or theory and subjectivity and irresponsibility? The choice is yours!
Mike, I am so happy that you have found peace in your life through Jesus Christ. Spirituality is such a wonderful, personal journey (and should be practiced as such). And while I have no use for a religion that ghoulishly rejoices in the brutal murder of its savior at the behest of his own father and then celebrates that murder through the regular practice of ritualized cannibalism and vampirism, I’m sure that others will find your divine message most inspiring.
Mike, whenever anyone starts their argument with “We must assume,” that means their argument has no actual logic to it. Otherwise, you wouldn’t need to make assumptions.
You can “What If?” yourself into immobilization, afraid to take a breath for fear of massacring millions of innocent single-celled organisms. I don’t choose live my life that way, and that is my spiritual choice.
But let’s look at your argument anyway. First, you assume that anyone with the morality to condemn murder MUST have gotten that idea from the Ten Commandments. Funny, but I can count billions of people on this planet who DO condemn murder and are not Christian or Jewish – how in the heck did that happen? Condemnation of murder, thievery, lying, adultery, and many other moral issues was in vogue with civilized societies long before the Ten Commandments were written.
Now, can you please point to the Commandment that says “Thou shalt not take the Pill”? After all, the topic of discussion here was oral contraception, not abortion, and certainly not “gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, homosexual behavior.”
That said, bringing children into a world where neither parent nor government is prepared to take care of them IS something I would consider “to be deviant and sexually immoral.” And I believe that my Creator does as well. Pro-Life should place children already here over children yet-to-be.
Your speech seems predisposed to the idea that no one has ever considered your thoughts before. Believe it or not, many human beings have actually considered all of these questions before making their life choices and their spiritual ones. Just because they don’t come to the exact same conclusion as you do doesn’t mean they haven’t put any thought or soul searching into it.
“What if the Creator has declared that all who do such things, without attempting to stop and obtain forgiveness through His Son Jesus will be punished eternally?” Really? That’s the reason people should accept Jesus Christ into their lives as their Savior? Not out of love or respect or realization of spiritual wisdom, but to cover their ass in case there really is eternal hell fire? Sounds rather self-serving to me.
“God is love.” “Obey me or writhe in excruciating pain forever.” I don’t consider those 2 ideas mutually inclusive. My choice, and I’ll take my chances with my own spirituality, thank you.
Hey, at least I read your perspective, even though it had nothing to do with this article and was completely superfluous to the topic at hand. I just don’t happen to agree with it. Peace out.
Mike, you have missed the whole point. No one here is arguing about the basic tenets of Christianity. What is being discussed is that some “Christian” broadcaster has made claims to defend his position on abortion or birth control that are patently false. This would fall under the commandment “Thou shall not bear false witness.” It does not matter how just anyone’s cause is if they do not act with integrity. Mr. Swanson is claiming that some doctors are saying that the wombs of women who use birth control pills have fertilized eggs in them. Biologically, this is impossible! First because birth control pills do not allow for fertilized eggs, that is what makes them effective, and second because a woman’s menstrual cycle naturally flushes out the contents of the uterus to make way for the next round of the cycle. This type of thing absolutely makes me angry!! NO ONE has a right to lie in an attempt to make their case more plausible. I am so tired of these so-called “Christians” making up stories to prove their point of view. All they really do is hurt the Christian church because their claims are so often absolutely outrageous and/or positively stupid–the fruit of an undisciplined and uneducated mind.
Brava, Catherine! Well put in an ovum-sized nutshell.
