Republicans are feeling the heat over their orchestrated shutdown of the federal government in order to defund Obamacare. They’ve been heckled, shouted down, and now one GOP Congressman reports he was “assaulted” by a stranger as he entered the Capitol for a vote on Wednesday.
Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI), who appeared in MTV’s “The Real World” in the ’90s, claims that as he was walking to the Capitol Wednesday evening when a stranger confronted him, began shouting at him, and then “grabbed his arm.” Duffy’s staff reports that the incident was “minor,” but it was reported to authorities as required by House security procedures.
From Roll Call:
“A random individual, unknown to the congressman, began screaming at him and grabbed his arm,” the congressman’s spokeswoman, Cassie Smedile, said in a Thursday morning statement. “Mr. Duffy was unharmed. He reported the incident in compliance with House security procedures. Congressman Duffy has requested no further action be taken and there will be no further comment on the matter at this time.”
Duffy is one of many House Republicans who have refused to compromise on a continuing resolution to fund the government unless it cripples the Affordable Car Act.
Welcome to the REAL WORLD Congressman Duffy, where there are REAL consequences for screwing America. And we hardly think a few shouts and grabbing your arm equates with “assault.” But it figures that a squishy and self-entitled conservative would see it that way.
As the shutdown drags on, and thousands of federal workers go without pay while elected officials like Duffy get their paychecks, you can probably expect to see more heated confrontations from average citizens against obstructionist right-wing members of Congress.
