Mitt Romney and the boys at his prestigious Cranbrook School referred to themselves as “Crannies”, which I think is awesome. Turns out Ol’ Mittens was a bully at Cranbrook, and saw himself as an enforcer of social norms. The Washington Post reports the disturbing accounts of classmates including a story about him tackling a terrified boy, pinning him to the ground, and cutting his hair because they perceived the boy to be gay.
President Obama has just concluded an interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts (to be aired in part on tonight’s ‘World News with Diane Sawyer’), in which he clarified his position on marriage equality, endorsing Same-Sex marriage. President Obama explained his views are based on “several years” of talking to friends, family, and staff about the issue.
On last night’s The Daily Show, Jon Stewart not only tackled the looming student loan crisis, but he also gave a new installment of “Gaywatch,” The Daily Show’s semi-regular round-up of news from the LGBT community. First, he laid into President Obama for wussing out of signing an executive order that would have banned workplace discrimination over sexual orientation for federal contractors. Then he took on the State of North Carolina, which is seeking a State Constitutional amendment against gay marriage, even though they’ve already made it illegal. But the highlight of the segment came over the “breakup” of Mike & Ike, the candy legends who have parted ways over creative differences (I guess?).
Serial adulterer Newt Gingrich released a video today declaring his support of North Carolina’s Amendment One, which declares marriage between “one man and one woman” as the only recognized legal definition of marriage.

It wasn’t enough to manufacture a faux ‘war on stay-at-home moms,’ the Conservatives have used pundit Hilary Rosen’s recent comment about Ann Romney, to attack her for being a Lesbian and adopting children.
Rick Santorum was busy spewing more of his skewed reality and worldview on Friday at the Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights, Illinois when two young men interrupted the speech by yelling and then kissing one another. The large crowd immediately turned on the men, booing them, pulling their hair and one woman reportedly hit the men with her cane.
Judge Parker is the first openly gay African-American elected official in the state’s history. She recently told the Dallas Voice that she refuses to perform heterosexual marriages because, according to Parker, “it is not an equal application of the law. Period.”
The woman is also the mother of a gay son, and during a question/answer session, she admitted feeling a “sense of guilt” for supporting Santorum, who her son claims “hates gays.” That’s when Karen Santorum stepped in and came to her husband’s defense, chiding “gay activists” for vilifying her husband.

Mitt Romney is a permanent member of what I like to call Darwin’s Workshop. He is always evolving, and that makes it difficult to pinpoint his positions on anything. He changes positions like people change their underwear (daily). However, one thing is certain. As he makes his presidential run in 2012, Mitt Romney is not a progressive in any sense of the word.
The CWA opposes gay rights, comprehensive sex education, drug and alcohol education, and feminism. It touts “pro-life” and “pro-family” values. A few days ago, Concerned Women for America posted a video (below0 with Crouse rattling off a litany of statistics about the gay community’s threat to traditional marriage. Janice’s God only knows where she got the statistics she presented in the video. I’ve tried to find them prior to writing this rebuttal without much luck.
When people ask me why these two candidates are so important, my answer is very simple: Both women are true progressives, and that’s what America needs. It’s pretty clear that the present ‘system’ of electing our leaders isn’t going to change any time soon. We’ve made halfhearted attempts at reforming the election process and have basically gotten nowhere.
