We Serve It, Even When It's Hard To Swallow

Sometimes it can be difficult to grasp the severity of a given situation and only a visual will drill the message home. Luckily for you, The Stew has just that: a BIG ASS graphic that proves that there is a “War on Women.”

The new cover of Time profiles a 26-year old mother and her 3-year-old son. The mother, Jamie Grumet from Los Angeles, subscribes to attachment parenting, and still allows her son to breast-feed.

What you’re about to watch is perhaps the purest, most unabashed declaration of right-wing hatred toward women to date, which has been growing exponentially over the last couple of years, thanks to the anti-women party known as the Republican Party and their women-hating evangelical base. Most evangelicals will tap dance around the issue of women’s rights, trying to use clever semantics to hide their hatred of women – this dude does not.

There were a couple of stories that hit the blogosphere this week that should send a shudder down the spines of each and every citizen. They’re an indication that, when backed into a corner, the right-wing has no qualms in lashing out in violence, even against their own children. In fact, they endorse it, they support it, and they are willing to preach it from the pulpit and over the airwaves.

Yesterday, in cities around the country, women and men marched in support of women’s rights and against the continuing war on women being waged by the GOP. In Denver, we did the same, drawing a crowd estimated between 1,500 and 2,000. Although, if you live in Denver and weren’t able to attend the rally, or weren’t able to witness the march by virtue of being downtown at the time, you’d never know it happened, because we have seen a complete blackout of media coverage from virtually every news outlet in the state. Their move to blackball the event is actually quite impressive.

Check out these jaw-dropping stats from the National Association of Evangelicals, part of the evangelical wing of the Republican Party that is trying to regulate and enslave the collective uteri of America (please excuse the pompous snarkiness to follow)…

The more we hear about the “mommy wars,” and the faux anger from the Romneys in response to recent comments made by Hilary Rosen, the more we are outraged by Ann Romney’s semi-private admission that the whole thing was a “Birthday gift.”

As the country takes a rolling somersault into General Election mode, members of the GOP top brass aim their barbs at President Obama whenever and wherever they can. Most specifically, Rep. John Boehner (R-OH), Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and even Mitt Romney, try desperately to paint President Obama as irresponsible, “lounging on vacation,” and now ”failing to lead” by “campaigning too much” during a presidential election year. Of course, if Mittens had his way, Obama would just stop campaigning, “start packing” and just hand the election over to the man that most Republicans refer to as a flip-flopping empty suit.

April is Confederate History Month. Think about that. There is a month to celebrate a group of people who were traitors to their country and started a war because they wanted to enslave people. How often do we have months to commemorate something that warrants only shame?

The first thing that strikes you when you learn how the Koch Brothers operate is how smart they are. Evil though they may be, their persistence and intelligence cannot be denied. Their reach is so extensive that their ideological network is referred to as Kochtopus.

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is dealing with increased criticism and scrutiny over his Twitter account after he called President Obama “stupid” on Friday. But the tweet has backfired on the GOP Senator because it led to closer examination of his incredibly confusing, raw, and wacky tweets that often rail against the History Channel and are full of typos and random characters.

Fox News weekend host Heather Childers is under fire from the public and media watchdog group Media Matters after she tweeted on Tuesday: “Thoughts? Did Obama Campaign Threaten Chelsea Clinton’s Life 2 Keep Parents Silent?” The tweet was linked to a blog that believes President Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud.

The right-wing’s hate mongering of President Obama’s religion, race and political philosophy has grown to a fever pitch, and is now evidenced in a series of paintings from a Utah artist, the latest of which is up for sale for $300,000 and is titled “One Nation Under Socialism” depicting Obama burning the United States Constitution. Sean Hannity of Fox News recently purchased one of the paintings.

If you ever wondered why Rick Santorum was ousted from his Senate seat…it’s for things like this. The man is a walking billboard for intolerance, ignorance, and pure hatefulness. During a campaign stop in Wisconsin on Wednesday at a bowling alley, the GOP presidential contender and Theocrat-in-waiting criticized a young boy for daring to use a pink bowling ball.

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) was “asked to leave” the House of Representatives floor this morning after he took of his suit jacket and put on a hoodie before speaking about racial profiling in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting.
