Religious Leaders to GOP: Keep Religion Out of Politics
When I first heard about the appeal and ‘statement of principles’ from major religious organizations to keep religion out of politics, I confess I was skeptical. Then I looked at the list of religious organizations participating in the process, and I understood much better. The drivers of this appeal are the legitimate religious groups, like the Anti-Defamation League, the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty and the Interfaith Alliance. Also signing on were the American Islamic Congress, the Hindu American Foundation, the Union for Reform Judaism, and the United Church of Christ, among others. Nowhere on the list were any of the Christian right-wing extremist groups, the Evangelicals, Catholics or the Mormons.

At every turn the Republicans trash the United States Post Office for the very financial problems the Republicans created. In the 2006 lame duck session of Congress, before Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats took over, the GOP threw a grenade at USPS titled The Postal Accountability Enforcement Act. This bizarre and unprecedented legislation mandated that within ten years the United States Postal Service would have to fully fund retirement healthcare benefits for the next 75 years. This coming from the same legislators who repeatedly voted to “borrow” money from Social Security. The Postal Service had a decade to fully fund the retirement healthcare benefits for future employees that will not even be born until 2057.
Indiana Republican: Girl Scouts ‘Radicalized’ and Promotes Homosexuality
The right-wing has taken their culture war to a whole new level of insanity. Indiana State Rep. Bob Morris (R-Fort Wayne) has refused to support a bill recognizing the 100th anniversary fo the Girl Scouts because he claims the group is “radicalized,” promotes homosexuality and is a “tactical arm of Planned Parenthood.” Morris is also upset because Michelle Obama is the honorary president of the group.
War on Women: Is Virginia Law State Sponsored Rape? Yes, It Is
Some might call the term “state sponsored rape” a little severe or harsh, but I disagree. It involves forced, medically unnecessary, unwanted, unwelcome penetration of a woman’s vagina, and in Virginia, it’s being sanctioned and demanded by the state, thanks to a recently passed law, which is now headed to the desk of Governor Bob McDonnell (R), currently trolling for a vice presidential spot in the 2012 election. McDonnell has said that he will sign the bill into law, which would require a physician to perform a trans-vaginal ultrasound on women seeking an abortion.
