The more we hear about the “mommy wars,” and the faux anger from the Romneys in response to recent comments made by Hilary Rosen, the more we are outraged by Ann Romney’s semi-private admission that the whole thing was a “Birthday gift.”

Across the country, we’ve seen a slew of personhood bills hit the state legislatures in unprecedented numbers. Personhood, by it’s very nature, would outlaw nearly all abortions by declaring that “life begins at fertilization.” So far, all of these bills have been defeated, with the most notable case in Mississippi last year, where a personhood bill went down in flames while the entire country watched. But the group behind these personhood bills, Personhood USA, is a stubborn organization.
I see-sawed from laughing my ass off to being really, really angry at this segment from The Daily Show. I had to remind myself that this is the reality of women’s rights in this country, as far as our government is concerned, and The Daily Show was simply highlighting the absurdity of that reality.
Mitt Romney is a genius at taking his own weaknesses and turning them on President Obama. He’s a genius at doing it, but miserable in making it stick. Whether he’s accusing the President of being “out of touch” (said the millionaire corporate raider), or attacking the Affordable Care Act (RomneyCare), Mittens is always haunted by those of us who check the facts. In the past week, Romney has used his own weakness with female voters, and his attacks on Planned Parenthood, to accuse the President of waging his own war on women, and insisting that women are worse off under the Obama presidency.
This is why Mitt Romney is such a revolting and craven political figure: he will do and say anything to get elected. It’s no wonder the Republicans don’t trust him, and why the rest of us think he’s a complete and utter tool.
In the latest chapter of the supposedly “non-existent”war on women, an Iowa Republican, one State Senator Mark Chelgren, has introduced a proposal that would require women who receive child support to submit to drug testing if the person paying the child support requests it:
Rosen wasn’t saying that motherhood isn’t hard work – she would know, she’s a mother herself – but she’s also a working mother, which makes her task as a mother that much harder. Her statements, whether you like them or not, were factually correct, because Ann Romney, as the wife of a multi-billionaire, has never had to face the hardships of being a working mother.
Democratic pundit and CNN political contributor Hllary Rosen is at the center of a firestorm that has erupted over comments she made on ‘AC360′ Wednesday, when she doubted Ann Romney’s veracity in dealing with economic issues since she had “never worked a day in her life.” Rosen was commenting on the fact that Ann had never held a job outside of the home, but Conservatives immediately used the soundbite to accuse Democrats and President Obama of a war on stay-at-home moms.
This is a war; it’s a war on our bodies, on our sovereignty, on our very rights as human beings. And in some respects, we’re fighting it from the inside.
This week, Tea Party mama grizzly Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) went on The View to declare that women weren’t that concerned with birth control, and in a taped segment for Bloomberg TV to air this weekend, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus insisted that Democrats and the liberal media have created a phony conflict then he compared the whole thing to a war on caterpillars.
